“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?”
1 Corinthians 3:16
I was unable to be present when I was with my kids because I was constantly going over the checklists that were in my head. I was feeling overwhelmed. I had so many places to be and I had so much to do. I checked off the list over and over again in my head. SO many commitments in my schedule.
commitment overwhelm and misplaced identity syndrome.
I have so many things that I want to accomplish…which isn’t innately bad in and of itself.
But, I felt a gentle nudge. Sometimes what you are aspiring to accomplish and do is masking a bigger problem. Certain things have become what you are finding your WORTH in. Your identity has become wrapped up in your commitments.
Your identity is your checklist. You are gleaning your life’s MEANING in your accomplishments, and in your busyness.
The panic that I feel when I CAN’T get things done shows me this-a misplaced identity in what I do.
Our Identity should be in Christ alone. Is the exhaustive list overwhelming you because you seek these things to ascribe meaning and worth to your life? Is your agenda sneaky? Is it fueling your unrest and overwhelm? Are you finding your life’s purpose IN your schedule?
Let’s replace our identity where it is meant to be-Christ alone and guess what? Christ doesn’t NEED you to finish that today…your need is pointing to an inability to rest and find fulfillment in HIM alone.
