“But when the sons of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer for them, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamin, a left-handed man. And the sons of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab. 16 Ehud made himself a sword which had two edges, a cubit in length, and he bound it on his right thigh under his cloak.” (Judges 3:15-16)
Have you ever heard the saying, “you’re the right woman for the job.”
I want to encourage you by saying, “you’re the right woman for the job but the PURPOSE of the job has nothing to do with YOU. The purpose is that you would display God’s glory and power here on earth where you are and with what you are doing.”
Let me back up-You might be the right person for the job, but it is more important that the reason you’re the right person for the job is because your UNIQUE characteristics glorify GOD.
Do you remember the “left-handed man” named Ehud who killed the “fat” king in Judges? (Judges 3:15-25) Ya, me neither.
Well I was reading about him this morning. The Bible rarely uses physical descriptors for people, and yet this very specific descriptor was used for Ehud, “left-handed.” So why do you think that this descriptor was included here?
Well the reason that, “left-handed” was included as a descriptor is this: the fact that Ehud was left-handed meant that he concealed his weapon on the opposite side of his body than most people. This small detail is what ENABLED him to kill the KING and free the Israelites from their terrible enemies at the time, the Moabites.
The guards would have checked to make sure that Ehud didn’t have a concealed weapon before letting him anywhere close to the King, but when they checked him they must have only checked his left-side, not his right side. This UNIQUE characteristic that made Ehud victorious and “the man for the job” was the surprise element that led Ehud to deliver the Israelite people from oppression and the very thing that made him able to GLORIFY God here on earth.
So, just cause you’re not smart enough, know the right people, pretty-enough, skinny-enough, money-savvy or patient enough doesn’t disqualify you as THE ONE FOR THE JOB. You see, your “left-handedness” might be the very thing that God uses to bring him glory, and ultimately be the very thing that makes you qualified to sneak up on the enemy to bring him GLORY.
