“He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.” (Malachi 3:3)
I’ve been feeling it. So unequipped for this motherhood thing. Totally floored by exhaustion. My son’s behavior is showing NO improvements no matter what I do… no matter how much effort I put in.
As you are being refined day in and day out by this sanctifying process of motherhood remember this: the battle is right here in our homes. It might feel like what you’re doing isn’t important but there are three truths MY heart has been clinging to.
ONE the battle for my son’s heart isn’t mine, it’s HIS. I just need to be faithful with what he’s given me.
TWO the refiner SITS and watches while he purifies the silver.. he tends to the silver in a diligent manner and never leaves the silver’s side. Therefore, although we are being sanctified through this motherhood journey, God never ever leaves our side.. he never takes his hands off the situation AND is never unaware of our trials. He never lets the fire get too hot so that the metal is ruined…
THREE in all things your faithfulness at home is where it starts. The under-appreciated moments are the ones that count, and as he sanctifies you through your unseen moments with your children he is preparing you for bigger things.
You are writing about your son. Does he have emotional problems?
My heart goes out to you
Thanks SO much, Leah! He has just been tough from day one. Not sure what it is.. he definitely doesn’t have autism, asperbergers or anything like that. He is just extremely emotional, and has emotional outbreaks daily. I’ve read every “strong-willed” child book, and I am currently trying to change his diet. I appreciate it! You are so sweet!
Hi Mikella,
I’ve just started reading your blog. You said something about your son’s behavior not improving. But there were no details really. Do you have an autism diagnosis? I can’t find anything on your blogs without back clicking on previous blogs. I’m a mom, Jesus loving mom, with a son who has autism. There is so much that can be done to help him. If you are dealing with a diagnosis of even something similiar (or no diagnosis at all but it looks a lot like autism) please reach out. Praying for you and your sweet family.
Paulette, So kind of you to reach out!! I love hearing from others. How old is your son? He doesn’t have autism, asperbergers or any diagnosis. He has just been a toughie from day one. Not sure what it is. He is just extremely emotional, and has many many many emotional outbreaks daily. I’ve read every “strong-willed” child book, and I am currently trying to change his diet. What helped with your son? I appreciate it! You are so sweet to reach out!!
Hi Mikella,
Your son sounds alot like my daughter. I remember praying and asking God to give me wisdom concerning my daughter AND strength and patience for dealing with her. She was number 5 of my 6 children, very emotional and verbal. It appeared that she was naughty, disobedient and talking back but that really wasn’t the case.
I too had read MANY books on strong willed children BUT that was not her. I finally began to understand her unique personality after I read Strong-Willed Child or Dreamer? by Dana Spears. There is a test included in the book and my daughter scored 29 out of 30 indicating her strong dreamer personality mix. That was over 20 years ago BUT it made the difference in parenting her and helping her to mature and excel using her God given gifts. I pray this info helps you…will keep you in prayer.
