“The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” (Job 33:4)
Where is God in my suffering!? My Barkley-bear was up all night coughing. He was struggling to breathe. Jamie and I would take turns going in there and comforting him. We’d take him out into the starlit sky and let him gasp in the clean air. We’d run the shower and let him breathe in the steam. He’d wake up all night long and we’d tend to him. We’d give him breath.
“SPIRIT, ” can be translated as Breath. The Holy Spirit wants to give you new breath, new life. In your dark night, the Spirit helps you breathe clean air. What is waking you up at night? God wants to give you new breath, a new song. He wants to open your eyes to the stars, and let you breathe in the clean air.
When you are sick, when you are exhausted, when you are low of heart-He wants to be your rescuer. Sometimes as a mom it feels like you’re taking care of everyone but there is no one taking care of you. Let Jesus be that someone. Let the Holy Spirit minister to your weary soul in your dark night. He wants to put clean air in your lungs. He wants to clear your sickness, and take away your pain. Let him minister to you.
The glory of God is a human being fully alive. —( Gerald G. May)
