Some days the demands are too much, the needs, the wants, the responsibilities. I’m exhausted from being a mom, wife, and trying my best to be a good friend. I am caught up with doing good things, and trying my best.
But, sometimes I do not realize how much of my own demands are self-inflicted, not God-inflicted.
The demands to serve are my own, I’m my own worst taskmaster as I try to strive, prove, and meet more needs than I ought. I worry, and I fret am I doing enough for my kids, my husband, my friends, my work? I’m genuinely trying my best, but I often feel that I fall flat.
The difference between Martha, and Mary might have been margin, maybe Martha was a product of hurry, but it was also letting both those outside demands, and self-inflicted demands speak louder than the voice of her Lord. Are you letting other peoples expectations speak louder over your life than the Lords desire for you?
Oh weary heart, God is not scolding you for not serving enough, he is inviting you to sit in his presence, to rest. He is inviting you to something better.
Maybe today, you need to let go of outside pressure and demands, and sit at his feet. Accept Christs invitation to rest. #chasingsacred

What does it mean that God is compassionate?
When my son Barkley cut open his entire head in a sledding accident, I ran to him, I cradled him, I wept, and I held his head together with my hands. God, who is far more resourceful than I, hears your cries, RUNS to you, cradles you, and holds you. May you never forget the Lord; the Lord is compassionate.

Every new baby brings joy, excitement, and fear of

Every new baby brings joy, excitement, and fear of the unknown.
I find myself struggling with many fears central to whether I live out what I believe the gospel says; I find myself asking whether “I can sufficiently raise this child? Can I raise FIVE kids well?”
Every new baby challenges my need for security apart from God. Am I putting my safety in my sleep, my work, my ability to manage a household, my children, my husband, or my friends? My fears often pop up as little reminders that I need to trust God minute-by-minute, day-by-day, hour-by-hour.
God's grace is sufficient, but I still want ____.
I still want to know I am adequate, which is where the battle for me often is.
I want to feel secure knowing that I can do this.
I still want to strive to achieve great things
Yet, God in this season is calling me to lay it down. When we reach the end of human limits, it invites us to ask the question:
Where am I not letting God be God in my own life?????
My hope is in 1 Peter 1:13.
My hope is not in my self-sufficiency, but in God's grace and sufficiency.
It’s often harder to proclaim God's grace and not rely on my perfection as a mother.#chasingsacred
