For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.(Isaiah 9:6)
Ever been angry at your kids? Straight up stressed out and ready to yell? I used to tell Jamie, “I’m not really an angry person…I don’t really yell.” Well, three young kids later and I realized I had been yelling MORE than I ever wanted to. I recently was praying to God, “Please help me stop yelling at my kids.” I was looking for a solution, a bit of strength in the chaos when this verse came to mind, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” — Proverbs 18:10
What is our strong tower? What is our peace amidst the chaos? The names of the Lord. These names remind us of his character and who he is. We can run to him and be safe. We can find shelter from the storms of life by uttering his name, “Jesus.” I write this coming fresh off three kids crying and screaming all at the same time. The baby was going crazy, my middle child was whining, and my eldest was being downright defiant. “Jesusssss,” I muttered. There is strength in his name.
“….And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) The prophecy of Jesus’s birth here on earth begins with these four names.
Wonderful Counselor-We can go to him for any and all information. He counsels us, leads us, and directs our steps. He is full of wisdom and we wonder at his greatness.
Mighty God-He is strong and capable. Mighty and rules over all.
Everlasting Father-Our Father forever. He will rule forever.
Prince of Peace-He promotes peace on earth and goodwill towards men. He is our source of peace.
