“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil, for he gives to his beloved his sleep.” (Psalm 127:1-2)
I took a two-week social media break/work break and enjoyed my family while we traveled. I tried to let my work GO as I was present with my growing tribe. For my struggling heart, I’ve been reminded: striving and toil in ministry, work, life won’t bring about any results. Only God gives growth. SO, why anxiously toil away at our endeavors?
Failure and success don’t depend on us and never will. If God wants your business, success, family, household, dreams, aspirations, or toilsome labor to succeed then they will. We can’t manufacture success, only he can. God is ultimately in charge of the outcome of our work. If we take a break from our work, our worlds don’t crumble, we depend on God. God is the author of our work, and we are just stewards of the talents he has given us. Lastly, to his beloved he gives sleep. That means sleep and rest are a gift. Let’s open our hands widely and receive them for what they are. An opportunity to let go, and learn to trust HIM with the outcome of our work.
